Itchenor SC Retain the Stewart Morris Trophy – July 2021

The annual match between the Society and Itchenor 2021 in Swallow keelboats resumed this year on 18 July 2021 after last year’s pandemic disruption.  As ever, it was a competitive and convivial event allowing Society members to relive the experience of team racing the Swallows on Chichester harbour and enjoy the Itchenor hospitality that so many of us will remember fondly from our Varsity Match days.

A gentle sea breeze and a flood tide provided classic conditions that favoured helms who could eke out speed from their boats and maintain momentum through the start sequence and team racing manoeuvres. The Itchenor team used their home advantage to maximum effect and took the match 4-0, although the score did not reflect the closeness of the racing.

Please contact Nigel Masding if you are interested in sailing in the match next year.  It will revert to its normal early season slot and is pencilled in for the 29 May 2022.

As many of you will know, there is a close connection between Society and the Swallow fleet at Itchenor.  Mike Wigmore from the class association would be more than happy to help any member who is interested in being introduced to the class.

Teams:

Society: Nigel Masding (Capt.) , Iain MacDonald-Smith, Robin Nott, Roger Yeoman, Tim Cooke, and Vincent Geake

Itchenor: Simon Slater (Capt.), Hugo Fisher, Malcolm Green, Philip Pascall, Andrew Reid, and Mike Wigmore
