The Society finished runners-up (0-3) to Birdham Bandits in a tough Oxford Magnum held at Farmoor Reservoir on 12/13 November 2016. There were 10 university, 8 alumni, and 2 school teams in the total entry of 20, which was divided into Gold, Silver, and Bronze leagues for the final stages of the competition. Sailing was restricted by lack of wind on the Saturday, but Sunday more than made up for it with sunshine and a good breeze.
Birdham Bandits quickly showed that they were the team to beat and they won their semi final 2-0 against Wessex Exempt. The Society saw off Royal Thames Blue (Cambridge alumni) 2-1 in their semi final. Every race of the final was a really tough battle, with the outcome being decided only on the short best to the finish – with lots of calls and quite a few spins in each race.
