Easter Newsletter – March 2018

The Web Master comments: I am sure that every member will want to join with me in congratulating our Hon Secretary Fiona Hampshire on her election as Yachts and Yachting Amateur Sailor of the Year. Well done Fiona!

Other news will also be found on this website, though bad weather caused the cancellation of the Cam Cup and restricted sailing at the UKTRA championships.

On a more sombre note, it is with regret that we record the recent deaths of John Clay and Ross Coles.

Social Events
Tom Low organised yet another excellent joint OUYC/CUYC/CUCrC drinks party at the O&C Club, Pall Mall on 23 March. There was good attendance from the CU Yacht Club (now a separate club from the CU Cruising Club). A brief report and some photographs are on this website.

Sailing Programme
20 May : Itchenor Match. Contact Andrew Reid for Swallows.
1 Sep : Wroxham Match (White Boats). Contact Gerorge Harston
2 Sep : Lymington Scow Inter-Club Challenge. Contact Luke McEwen
29 Sep : Generations Event (Farmoor) Contact Lottie Rapson.
Details of all these events will be found on the Programme Page of this website. Note the unusual timing of the Varsity Match in Weymouth (6-8 July).

The BUSA Championship finals take place immediatly after Easter at Glasgow. Oxford and Cambridge have both qualified – Cambridge with the maximum of three teams.
The Society is very well represented on the Royal Thames team that is heading for the Bladwin Cup four-a-side team racing at Newport Beach 12-14 April. Good luck to all the team!

With best wishes for a pleasant and successful season’s sailing,

pp Fiona Hampshire
Honorary Secretary
